I lived in this house from the time I was born until about the age of five. My mother sold the house to Mickey and Francine Hughes. This was 1079 Grove Street in Dansville, Michigan. The house burned on March 9, 1977 when Francine Hughes poured gasoline onto the bed of her allegedly abusive husband and set him - and the house on fire. There is just a vacant lot where the house used to stand. Based on this story, a book was written, and later, a movie starring Farrah Fawcett. Both are titled, The Burning Bed.
Even though I was very little, I have very vivid memories of this house - the smell of the slatted, aged wood in the attic where I would sneak off and play with Johnny West toy sets, the life we lived there, and so on. In the dining room was carpet, or a large rug, that had an Oriental design. Some of the walls were mint green in color. The upstairs was extremely cold in winter. There was a cellar where the washer and dryer were kept, with an old-style entrance from outside. Along with a few hardwoods, a fruit tree was out back - either Apricot or Peach, and roses to the left of the very narrow back porch steps as you were going outside. (I fell into them many times sustaining some nasty injuries). I won't bore you with more. ;) Thank you for participating! I can't wait to read your findings for this week's challenge!
