The Magic of Numbers ~ Part Two

From the introduction in The Magic of Numbers ~ Part One, we began to see how numbers are found in everything from the make-up of each tiny cell to the vastness of the galaxy, and from the sound of an instrument to the spectrum of light, color and more.  The fascinating mystery of numbers seems to be without end, encompassing everything and everyone for eternity!  Discover your own hidden mysteries with a FREE, personalized Numerology Report.

Around the turn-of-the-century, Mrs. L. Dow Balliet, a piano-music composition teacher, discovered that the letter name of each note had the same vibration as its musical tone.  Because of this, it stood to reason that the sound of each letter in the English alphabet must also correspond to the vibration of its numbered place therein.
Interpreting words and letters numerically in order to understand their hidden meanings is not a "New Age" or "anti-religious" concept.  In fact, it is deeply rooted in the medieval Kabbalistic system of interpreting Hebrew scriptures to discover hidden meanings.  It has been used by both Christians and within the occult.  (Occult simply means "the hidden side of nature").  This technique of using numeric values for letters is known as Gematria, and is common among ancient Hebrew and Greek letters.

In Greek, Gematria means "geometry".

There are some issues with English language Gematria, however, including the fact that people are purposefully manipulating the number assignments to achieve "certain results" for show or shock factor.  For example, assigning 6 to the Letter "A" and then proceeding in increments of 6 through the alphabet...like this:   A=6, B=12, C=18 will guarantee the presenter will end up with "666" for certain words and phrases he chooses.  Further, anything created in a 3, 6, or 9 pattern is always going to significantly limit the end results, which can easily be deduced from the following video.   This is just a basic mathematical concept, like the fact that multiplying nine by any number always produces nine, as seen here:  1,457 x 9 = 13,113 and 1+3+1+1+3 equals 9.

A widely accepted form of English language Gematria used in Numerology, however, was credited to Pythagoras, and remains a favored method.

Excerpt from Numerology:  Key to Your Inner Self  by Hans Decoz:
"The western form of Numerology, the Pythagorean system, is among the most enduring and popular of all self-help methods ever created.  The Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Hebrews, Egyptians, Phoenicians, early Christians, Mayans and Incas all employed number systems to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the universe.
Pythagorean Numerology was organized by Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, who combined the mathematical disciplines of the Arabic, Druid, Phoenician, Egyptian and Essene sciences.  Since then, it has continued to evolve.  It formed the spiritual basis for many secret societies, such as the Rosicrusians, Masons, Anthroposophists and others."

In the third and final segment of "The Magic of Numbers", we'll look at the meanings and interpretations in Numerology.  What mysterious properties and vibrations do each of the numbers hold for us, and even for the year 2016?

"The miracle of the appropriateness of the language of mathematics for the formulation of the laws of physics is a wonderful gift which we neither understand nor deserve."  Eugene P. Wigner, Princeton University, The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences

“Science has a lot of questions to which they are searching for answers, while the occult has all the answers and is waiting for the questions. When the day comes that the two meet, there will be greater strides in science than have ever been made before."  William Eisen, scientist and author of The English Cabalah
