The Blog Author with Grand Daughter, Vehda
My adorable, 2 1/2 year old, grand daughter visited me today and informed me that she saw a "chickenrabbit" at the farm she and her family visited recently. Everything about Vehda's world is wholesome, magical, wondrous and mystical. Her innocent musings are the heart and soul of magic and paganism.

With one sentence, Vehda took me back an entire 40 years to when I was three years old. In a matter of seconds, I recalled what it was like to have no fears, to be completely tuned to the universe and all within it, to feel the "magic" all around me, and to have no concept of "doubting" - anything was possible.

Throughout our lives, between the trials, successes and defeats, we lose track of the real "magic" all too quickly. Gathering various weeds, sticks and flowers to add to our mud-pie creations while singing to the butterflies is replaced (too soon) with racing the clock to hurry and "grow up". The stresses and burdens of adult life barely offer a moment of peace or happiness, let alone "permission" to reconnect with the wonders that make life interesting. We're conditioned to discard the magic as "nonsense", as we learn to blind ourselves to everything beyond the mundane.

Whether we see it or not, the magic IS still there! More often than not, we should really make an effort to reconnect with mud-pies, butterflies and chickenrabbits.
Inspired by her Native American roots and Bradbury lineage, Polly Taskey is a writer and grandmother in the northern USA.  She shares her wisdom and pagan interests through Pagan by Design and The Moonlit Grove.
