My Ritual Garden and Seed Blessing

While there is still snow on the ground between Imbolc and Ostara, I gather enough clean snow to tightly fill three, quart-sized glass canning jars, saying, "The dormant time of rest ends soon, for months you've sparkled 'neath the moon, and just as blankets are removed, wake now and bring us life renewed".

(If you live in an area that doesn't receive snow, use clean crushed ice instead). Cover the canning jars with their lids and place them indoors near a sunny window to thaw. As you place them, say, "I welcome now the reborn Sun, a brand new cycle has begun, and as He grows til winter's done, He awakens now the fertile One. Father Sun and Mother Earth, bless this water for rebirth".

When it is time to prepare the garden, rake the tilled and softened soil neatly from east to west, visualizing a hardy crop of vegetables and herbs in its' place. Walk clockwise three times around the perimeter, sprinkling a bit of the melted snow (or ice) with your fingers onto the readied soil and say, "As seed is planted field to shore, among animals and plants once more, this sacred water shall insure, all within grows full and pure".

Warm the soil by placing black plastic over the tilled soil (or raised planter beds) for at least 9 days prior to planting. When seed planting time arrives, place all the seed packets (and seedlings) in a small basket and kneel with them upon the north side of the garden space. Before setting them into the soil say, "Blessed sprouts and tiny seeds, your bounty will sustain my needs, full and strong you now shall grow, 'neath Sun and Moon - it shall be so".

After sowing the seedlings and seeds, gently water them with the rest of the water from the canning jars. Thank Mother Earth and plant one uncooked egg in the very center of the garden, saying, "From egg and seed all things renew, I offer this to honor You, I trust the blessings You will bestow, upon the world and life I know".
